Ripples and possible cracks under carpet - is my subfloor failing?

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.21 PM

My carpets and even lino all developed ripples within a couple of weeks this winter. Some of them seem to appear at regular intervals and I swear I can feel crack lines, maybe, in certain spots. I can't take up any of the carpets, so I'm left guessing. A damp meter doesn't indicate a moisture problem and I've not been pulling furniture around, so all I can think of is that the concrete subfloor is somehow failing? Could this be the case?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi yes I'm guessing that on you're vynal areas the fitter hasn't primed the subase there for cracking may of accured in latex but going back to carpets areas underlay underneath could of broken up or carpet on the backing could of broken up I'm afraid sounds like areas will need to be taken up and looked into closer

Movement in a concrete floor? Ridiculous. If your carpets and vinyl's were fitted in the cold weather, they would not have been able to be stretched properly. Now they have warmed up, they have become supple again, so have stretched. If you leave it too long, the carpets will separate, delamination, and the vinyl's will stay with ripples. You need to get it sorted straight away.
