Max power boost 4.6kw Hob + 3.2kw Oven connecting to a 2.5mm wire with 20amp switch and 20amp fuse

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.21 PM

Hi am planning to install an 3.2kw oven and currently there's only 1 power outlet which is connecting to my max power boost (2.3kw+2.3kw) 4.6kw hob. The power outlet are 2.5mm wire connecting to 20amp switch and 20amp fuse. Will it be alright if connecting the 3.2kw oven to the same power outlet?

Hi, You will have 7.8kw combined so using the formula I=p/v we have: 7800W/230V=33.91 A You will need a Breaker equal to or greater than 33.9A so the next manufactured size is a 40A MCB. You will need a cable with a cross sectional area to carry equal or a greater current than 40 A. according to the regs this would be a 6mm cable. So you definitely cannot use the 20A breaker with 2.5mm cable. hope this helps.

You will need another 2.5mm circuit with 16amp fuse to supply new unit. Conecting both to 20amp existing circuit will overload the fuse and you cant upgrade the fuse on a 2.5 radial circuit either. You will need to hire a qualified electrician to provide additional circuit.
