Is there a way to DIY fix a few ponding areas on a flat roof (balcony floor)?

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.21 PM

My balcony has a few spots where water is starting to pond and I'd like to try to fill the dips before they get any worse or at least so that they're okay until I have the whole lot replaced. The dips aren't leaking but they're retaining water; the deepest is approx. 6cm deep and the most shallow around 2cm. I thought I could get away with pouring a liquid rubber in them till they level to prevent water sitting in them - figured that would be lightweight also to minimise further worsening. Would really appreciate any ideas on how to fix this myself - afraid COVID has left me very strapped but want to prevent an even bigger cost in the future should it fail before it's replaced! Pictures are here if they're allowed: https://imgur.com/a/ohm1PIJ

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

6cm is a huge dip this is years of neglect and abuse, this doesn’t happen over night, the roof is knackered and needs completely stripping backs to joists redecking and then actual roof covering put on, sounds like the decking is gone and rotten and or joists... I wouldn’t be surprised if you need to replace the odd joist or two, it’s beyond a DIY bodge repair as 6cm is too big to fill in, all I can suggest doing is painting the roof in cromapol until you can afford a professional, but even that isn’t cheap at £120 a 20kg tin this repair is expensive on bigger jobs where two/three tins might be needed. To be honest there is no answer without at least a photo and knowing what waterproofing system you have. Thanks. Jason James
