How to replace single lever shower valve with threaded grub screw

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.20 PM

I have a single lever shower valve/handle which has recently started becoming stiff to turn. It was fine but is quickly getting noticeably worse by the day. So I thought I would have a look to see if there is a quick fix or if it needs replacing. Unfortunately the grub is threaded and I can't remove the handle (I took a picture of it with my phone). I can't think of a way of removing it as it is so difficult to access as it is recessed and so close to the wall, but I guess this is something professionals must encounter regularly? The only thing I can think of is angle grinding the whole thing off, but this doesn't feel like a wise solution! So how can it be removed? And if it can't be removed how do I get the shower replaced? Thanks a lot.

No picture is visible on your post so I dont know full extent of threaded grub. Basically, if you cant get that grub out it's new shower time I'm guessing. If its stuck in with no thread, theirs nothing much you can do apart from try to drill the grub screw out but it might not be possible. Other than that fit a new shower but you might have to break a few tiles so probably better getting in a plumber if you're not confident yourself.

Get a qualified plumber in to look who knows what they're doing.
