Neighbour extending towards my front door

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.20 PM

Hi Just looking to get a bit of advice if I can please I own a semi-detached property with my entrance at the side of the property, myself and my neighbour next to us (not the one we're attached to) both open our doors to face each other’s houses. We both have a separate strip of concrete that acts as a driveway that leads down to connected garages. My neighbour is thinking of extending out towards my house and essentially using the space that is currently occupied by their strip of concrete/driveway. I just wanted to check if they might need planning permission for this or if they would be allowed to do so under permitted development? They do already have a single storey extension out the back (wasn't sure about the rules around further extensions without permission). Both of our bathrooms are upstairs but windows at the side of the house as well and windows downstairs that look into the kitchen/dining area so feel like a lot of privacy would be lost if they came closer, similarly worried about loss of light and restricted access to my garage etc.. If they were allowed to do so would there be a restriction on where they could have windows or anything else they’d have to comply with?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

would think they will need full planning as they will have used up there perrmited delopment rights on the back, your best bet is to speak to your local council planning /building control to find out exactly what is or is not required. good luck alex

My advice would be to contact your local council planning dept as light and privacy are of major issues regards granting planning consent

I would say that you would need planning as it is a shared access, best to check whith the relevant authorities.

I am assuming the strip have a small foundation as well, therefore planning permission and party wall agreement required. Kind regards Sherwan
