Oil stains on a brushed and oiled floor

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.20 PM

I have just had a new oak 'brushed and oiled' flooring laid in my kitchen. I have 2 young kids...I realise now that I have stupidly installed the worst floor for this area. My kids drop one crust of bread and the floor has an oil stain on it. I have purchased all relevant products..inc light wash mop, liquid wax cleaner, and new oil to spot clean it. The floor has put my nerves on edge and I'm constantly following my kids around with a cloth in case they drop stuff. Fun. Is my only option to sand entire area and varnish? I can't live my life like this! All help appreciated. Thank you!

If they have used just oil stain then it does mark easily. You could sand any use polyurethane varnish but big job or try this which gives a better finish and can be applied on top of your stain. It contains a wax too that prevents staining. Hi, I do not disagree with the previous poster but would suggest looking at Treatex as well. This could be applied on top of your existing oil after cleaning. I don't know where you got your new floor from but I have lately seen some really poorly finished boards with what looks and feels like only half a coat of oil...
