Plumbing

Worried I have hit water pipes

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.20 PM

Thank you very kindly in advance to anybody who answers this. I recently moved house. The floorboards (the modern green chipboard kind) were very squeaky so I took the carpet up and put new screws down in 2 upstairs rooms (landing and master bedroom). Our house is down a lane inaccessible for a fire engine so requires a sprinkler system. Several hours later water was draining through the sprinkler system gap in the roof of the kitchen. I had hit a pipe above it. I have a plumber coming round tomorrow hopefully. But now I am terrified (can’t sleep!) that I have hit other pipes. Especially in the master bedroom where I put a lot of screws down. There has been no obvious leak, but could it happen over time? Or would I instantly know? Is the heating on a different system and therefore a new leak might emerge when I start the heating up (if I hit a radiator pipe). I am so worried I cannot think straight. Yes, I know I am a fool. Any advice is great. Thanks.

Hi. If no water comes out from under the floor where you put the screws, it means that you have been saved by a miracle. On the other hand, if you have a screwed heating pipe, you should immediately see the leak. If you need to have it checked and repaired, I can intervene. Let me know. 07428020598.

The plumber can do pressure testing on the pipe circuits to establish if there are any leaks.

Sometimes you can hit a pipe and the screw will plug the leak up but it will only hold temporarily. Depending on what type of screws you have used as above people have answered I'd definitely get the plumber to do a pressure test

I would have gone for an emergency plumber to reduce the damage leak could cause. There is nothing that you can do really but an emergency Plumber is your best option at this point.
