Seal gap behind dot and dab over pipes and cables

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.20 PM

Hi, sorry if this is a bit basic but I need a bit of advice. I have taken down a section of damaged dot and dab plasterboard in my kitchen, (big hole behind old cupboard, damage from removed tiles, loose dabs). I now need to put a new board in but need to know what to do about sealing between blocks and plasterboard at top of wall. The ceiling plasterboard finishes about 15-20mm from the blocks and there are 3 cables drops in galvanised sheathing plus 15mm H&C water pipes fixed on the block wall passing up into the ceiling above. I had thought of 3 vertical timber battens but unsure how I need to seal horizontally. I can maybe dot and dab if that is a better solution but never tried it. Thanks in advance Thanks Exodus for reply. The hot and cold copper water pipes just had a strip of dpc over them so I'm guessing I will just replace that and put dot and dab adhesive over the top or do I need something better?

Hi. Making sure your cleaned the wall apply pva with a three part water to one pva. Allow to dry. Apply adhesive around the whole of the replacement board with dots in the middle. If your just going to patch plaster make sure the board is slightly recessed around three to four mm. it may crack as you can’t apply scrim tape to the edges. Skim wall.
