Kitchen Fitting

Can a floor be lifted with the brand new kitchen already fitted?

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.20 PM

When we had the person who was to prep the room for the kitchen fitting he indicated that the tiles wouldn’t need lifted. We have had the brand new kitchen fitted and worktop in. The joiner who was to lay the laminate did not do this right, he was half done and we have said he is not to come back. Giant holes at the side of room then in other places too tight to wall. Got the new joiner in and he pointed out that the flooring is too high to open the door. Cue our dismay. The tiles need lifted but the kitchen is already in. How can this be done?? Most units are on legs that reach floorboards under but some are on the old tiles. Am so stressed Update: the door is a pvc door which won’t be able to be planed enough. Is this something that should have been identified by the person who was in charge of the ‘prep’? He has tried to insinuate that somehow we are to blame. Thank you for your help

Hello, good news is this can be done but it will need someone who comes across as a good problem solver and the ability to work around things to get an excellent end result. Basically break out the bulk of the tiled floor and then remove tiles under one leg at a time and then re adjust each leg as you go, Shouldn't be to much of a problem depending on how the tiles are bonded to the floor etc.. Just a quick note, i guess you can't trim the bottom of the door down slightly to fit, I assume this has already been written off for whatever reason. Update. Yes they should of known better than that, unfortunately it sounds like it all will need removing and starting again with the correct prep carried out first making sure the tiles etc are removed then possibly latex to bring the floor up to the desired height depending on the depth of the tile adhesive etc all ready for laminate to finally finish it off to correct floor levels.

Difficult without seeing how much the door will foul the new flooring, Upvc doors often have height adjustment, if this is not possible I believe its an easier process to remove the door and frame, there may be a gap between the head of the frame and the brickwork whereby you can lift the door up, also as a last resort you can plane a little off the frame approx 10mm in order to achieve more height. This is the way I'd be looking to overcome the problem as lifting the tiles at this stage will be quite difficult but not impossible. Good luck, Ian....
