UPVC front doors - water coming at the bottom of external doors

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.20 PM

We had new UPVC external doors installed last year, but we have issues with water coming at the base of the doors. How can the water be getting in? Is there something I should check around the door to be sure it has been installed correctly? Thanks for the responses - the doors were fitted by the same contractor who installed my double glazed panels back to front, and sealed all the trickle vents - so suspect similar issues with doors. Now have new contractor whom will remove and reinstall windows and doors correctly.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hello, there could be a few reasons. Check that the threshold (possibly metal) to the base of the door has been sealed correctly to make it water tight, this should be sealed to the base of the frame and the sides to disperse water. Also check that the outside of thw frame has been sealed were it meets the wall with no gaps no matter how small from top to bottom. Also could be that the underside fo the frame has not been sealed to whatever materials it is sat on. Really need to find someone who can problem solve this for you and that has experience in resolving water ingress etc.

Really there should be a rain deflector fitted along the bottom of the door, check the drainage holes aren't sealed or blocked..check they haven't sealed along the bottom outside where the bottom of the door meets the sill...

Check all drainage holes are clear. Also at the bottom of the door should be a UPVC drip bar to prevent water breaching the threshold.

You can also check your drainage isn’t blocked in the bottom of door or frame .
