Best Way to baton plasterboard over lime plaster external wall

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.20 PM

I wish to baton plasterboard over lime plaster external wall. Whats the best method and materials to use. I do not want to use lime plaster fullstop. I was thinking of 12.5mm plasterboard with a built in vapour barrier. Between the batons I would use some sort of insulation. I do not wish to use plasterboard thicker than 12.5mm because of lack of space. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks ardmayle bathrooms but I would prefer to use batons on walls and not adhesive so to minimise the threat of moisture coming from outside.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

I'd buy insulated plasterboard, for an easy life. You can dab it on with plasterboard adhesive. If you don't fancy that, you can fix sheets of XPS directly to the wall, using plasterboard adhesive, (prime wall and board with SBR first), filling all the gaps and edges with expanding foam. Then use the same plasterboard adhesive to dab the drywall onto the XPS, (again, priming liberally with SBR). This isn't generally done but I've done it many times: it works and it's cheaper over a large area than insulated boards. Or, you can screw up roofing battens, but cutting and fitting the sheet insulation into the gaps is a pain, and you've got the cold bridging through the battens. I hope that helps.

I would use 2by1 Barton’s with damp course behind the Barton’s then use 25 mm insulation then a vapor barrier then foiled backed 25mm plasterboard and scimmed
