Bricklaying & Repointing

best way to resurrect fallen external column of bricks

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.38 PM

Hi, the property boundary is a mixture of fencing and brick columns (4 wide, 2 deep, ~20 high) with wooden poles fixed to the columns. Strong winds caused the fences to act as 'sails' and sheer off the wall (foundations are solid) near the bottom. Simple and most costly option is to bin the bricks, buy new and build up from foundations. I could get a brick hammer and knock all the bricks off the fallen piece, cleaning off mortar. My question is this, if I was able to separate the fallen wall in segments (perhaps 4 bricks high) is it possible to mortar these segments onto the remaining foundation, or do you HAVE to rebuild a wall brick-by-brick? Thanks!

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Yes take all down clean bricks well and rebuild .you will have a good strong permanent job and it will look all the one piece of work not like a jigsaw.

You can rebuild the bricks you take and clean off onto the rest of the wall, as long as the wall your building on is solid and stable,
