Bricklaying & Repointing

20m dwarf wall may be retaining in places.

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.38 PM

My neighbours house is set slightly higher than ours... between us and them there is a close board fence which was there when I moved in, I presume there is some form of wall behind the fence as it must be retaining in parts. Their front garden is higher than ours but a section drops to our garden level in the corner and all of their surface water runs under the fence and is basically washing away/ flooding our garden in the winter. My plan is to remove the fence and install a wall to hold back the water from running in and ruining the garden. I.e they’ll have to find a solution for their drainage. Is this possible? If so... I would be looking to replace fence with a wall about 20m long but only a metre high (max) with a close board fence on top of that wall. Is it possible/ will it alleviate my water issues and what are the likely costs please? Thanks in advance.

From the description given, sounds like when the ground is wet in the winter months the water will always find its way down hill.A retaining wall with some drain off holes in all along would sort it out Kind regards Justin (JSM BRICKWORK)

hello before you build the new wall run a 100mm land drain along the top of the new concrete footing.behind the new wall run the drain to a soakaway close to the wall bury the drain in 10 mm shingle fit a membrane to fhe back of the new wall then backfill 7 days later .

Yea thats possible depending on the height diffrence between the two gardens determines the width the wall would need to be

A land drain positioned at the rear base of the wall will direct any excess water away from your property, this solution will ease any additional pressure on water retention behind the wall
