Manufacturers code on the inside of new triple glazed windows?
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.37 PM
Hi there, I've recently had new triple glazed units fitted and I noticed that there's very bright blue writing eye level on every single piece of glass fitted inside the frames. I asked the installer and they told me that these are the manufacturers codes and they have to be there in order to comply with building regulations. I find this quite strange, as it's an eye sore when you look out of the window and it's on every piece of glass. Could somebody please tell me if this is the case? Thank you for any advice! Lee

Hi Lee,I work with building regs all the time and I have never seen this, the main regs regarding Windows is BS 952 1995 part1 and BS 952 part 1980 part 2 .thats thermal values and suchlike, also Another ref is the means of escape from the house thru Windows.you may have a safety glass stamp that's put in the corner of the glass that's about the size of a 1p...I would check with the council planning dept for clarification on this ,,take photos and go to the council they're the ones that stipulate building regs...hope this helps...

The only markings on Glass units are the toughend mark stamps in the corners which are only found in glass that’s close to the ground. I.e doors.
Apart from this there’s no need to have any writing on the glass.

Only etching /stamps are to confirm safety glass as been used ie doors and anything below 1800 this will be in a corner and unless you look for it not allways visible it's so small about 5p size or penny and will either have kite mark on or stamp saying toughened safety glass or safety glass I've never known anything eye level in centre of double ,single or triple glazed
