Plastering & Rendering

Plaster Finish and best way to fix.

Anonymous user 01/03/2024 - 2.55 PM

I recently had several rooms in my house Dry lined and Skimmed. The work pre-painted looked to be satisfactory although the finish around all the sockets was far from satisfactory and took me considerable time and a few bags of easy fill to fix but I took that on the chin. After paining it revealed Trowel Mark, lumps dumps and waves in the finish, the best way to describe the finish is like cellulite and other areas look like waves in the sea. I am trying to work with the plasterers to get the work fixed, they have so far addressed 1 room by re-skimming the ceiling and 2 walls. They drilled wholes in a section of board that was not bonded to the wall and foamed filled and left me with several areas of wall with easy filled trowelled on and left for me to sand. In my mind I have agreed the quoted price and it was in line with other quotes and have been left with a shoddy job. Should I be expected to sand walls that they don't want to re-plaster due them having reveals or corner? Am I correct in expecting a better finish?

Yes it sounds like you’ve had some bad tradesmen! Shouldn’t be lumpy or trowel marks in anything I would’ve thought they have used flexible trowels from what you’ve said! You shouldn’t need to sand anything unless it was to shined up to much to make the paint key better

As a decorator it sounds like the kind of work id turn down. There are some shocking so called plasterers out there. And unnacceptable you are left with he sanding. Slapping easifill on ( probably done badly) anyone can do but lets face it who.likes sanding filler down, i dont

As long as they are sorting it out it’s not a problem. But they should be sanding the east fill .Some times people don’t know how to paint new plaster.
