Can a boiler be moved easily during a renovation?
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.59 PM
Hi - I'm just about to move into a property and the boiler looks pretty old and on its last legs. In the next year/two years I'll be doing a full renovation so just wondering is it worth just trying to keep the old boiler alive for that long, or go ahead and get a a brand new boiler now, even though it may need to moved once I start renovating? I'm loathe to shell out £3-4k now when I'm not 100% sure what the renovations will look like/where the new boiler goes/how many bathrooms it will need to support, etc.
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Suggest Get it Tested. Just because its old doesn't mean its no good. The whole industry seems to think that way. The older boilers had far less electrical components to break down, were more sturdy and reliable and cheaper to run. What is the Boiler Make and Model and I am sure you will get some feedback ?

To Move a boiler it can be moved easily, however it depends on where you would want to move it and if it was needing to be moved, however if you are looking to renovate it in a year or 2 it could be more harm to change it now, waiting until you renovate could help.
it could damage the new boiler depending on the changes.

A boiler can be moved as currently regulations state it gas to be a condensing boiler as if it’s not it can be relocated ,as to when you move the boiler it can be moved at any time ,as it would be possible better to put the pipe work (new pipework)in place at same time as building works start and then it wouldn’t hold up the builder building program

Best keep,it running. Just if breaks down and needs huge spending may as well get a new one.
Moving an old boiler for renovation will not work period.
Moving a new boiler for renovation will work.
Old boiler and their parts get very brittle over time, seals, rubber, plastic and any rough knocks is not going to make them happy.
I would try keep the old boiler going with minimal, expenses until the renovation is done and then install a new boiler where you, want it
PS don't forget to powerflush for a new installation to protect any warranty.
