Connecting hot water heater plus hob and oven on 10mm cable

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.58 PM

I need to lay the cable before the kitchen gets fitted pending an electrician to come and do final connection so what I would like to know is that I have a water heater to be installed under the sink, 9.5kw and I have a 3kw electric hob and 3kw oven. Can I run a 10mm cable and connect all on the same cable. I understand the cable will take about 16kw plus. I.e run it to the sink and take a spur off for the heater and then continue to the oven/hob.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Ignore the assemblers advice utter nonsense. 9.5 kw water heater on a 2.5 mm ?? Get an electrician to quote as he will see route and advise of all requirements

Hi there, Your oven has to be run off a 6mm cable straight to the consumer unit to pass an EICR test, so probably best to run 2 cables, a 6mm + 2.5mm with the 2.5 mm running the hob and the water heater. kind regards Garry

The oven and hob have to be on a dedicated circuit with a double pole cut off switch, see Part P building regs. A 9.5 KW heater will require 41 amps, therefore a 10mm cable, if you check the cable capacity tables a 6mm cable will handle 41 amps, depending on installation method, but you’d be wise to fit a 10mm cable. You can’t run the heater and the oven/hob on the same circuit
