Kitchen Worktop as Study Desk
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.58 PM
I am in the process of converting a 2.5m x 38mm kitchen worktop into a study desk. I have 2 x heavy duty square table legs, these will be fitted 400mm from either end of the worktop. There distance in the center around 17.m will be unsupported. Please can you advise if this area with sag, bow without additional support.
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Make an apron out of 3 x 1 to the appropriate size attach the legs to it , then attach this to the worktop with 25 mm angle brackets. That a quick easy solution to your problem. Hope all works out ok. Good luck.

I agree with the above answer, but if you don't like the idea of having plain wood or painted wood visible you could pop down to your local DIY center and get some near matching vinyl wrap and wrap the apron before you attach it.. this could obviously be done at a later date if you find yourself noticing the apron and bugging you.
Yes, assuming you could get the apron piece in the same board you could have it edgebanded. There are many places that would do this for a price. If you go this route though I'd recommend minimum 0.8mm edging but preferably 2mm edging don't with PUR glue and not EVA as it's bond is not only stronger but more suitable for anywhere with high humidity such as kitchens or bathrooms.

hi, all answers are good, could also use cls timber 40mm x70mm glue and screw, facing with a matching 38mm worktop edging would give theadded strip and not to noticeable,
