Correct base for reclaimed quarry tile garden path

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.58 PM

I need to lay a quantity of reclaimed quarry tiles for a 3.6m x 1.2m garden path. The tiles are roughly 150mm x 150mm x 20mm. I am unsure whether these would be best laid on a concrete slab or on a typical sand/cement mix base that you would use for much larger paving slabs. I have also seen the NorCros Rock-Tite Exterior Porcelain & Stone system. What would be the best option? Other front garden paths in my street all look a bit of a state and I assume they have not been laid on a concrete slab?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

THERE ARE TWO WAYS OF LAYING GARDEN PATHS.IF THE BASE IS SOUND YOU CAN LAY YOUR QUARRY TILES ON A FLAT CONCRETE BASE WITH RAPID SET ADHESIVE OR SAND AND CEMENT WITH A VARIABLE SCREED.

It does depend on what the quarry material is, for example if it is a limestone quarry you would have to use lime based cement, take a sample to a specialist tiling centre and ask if they can identify the material first and then ask them what they would recommend. Using sand and cement if it is not suitable could cause more problems in the future. Find out first, save cost redoing, fit once for a good finish.

Firsly i would make sureto put a suitable base using a three eight to dust mm wet it first then use a whacker to compact it, when you have got it level use a cement screed to lay your tiles on only lay enough screed to reach to lay tiles on, make sure to use straight edge to get screed flat when you grout tiles next day best thing would be to go to. Topps tiles ask which . Grout would be suitable
