Replacing Plastic Faceplate for Metal
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.39 PM
I am replacing my plug sockets from plastic to metal. For the sockets with a plastic back box, is the main ring earth into the socket enough earthing? Do I need an extra earth from the socket to the wall? The plastic back box doesn’t have an earthing terminal. Thanks!

No. As long as your earths are good and tight in the socket terminals you’re good to go. Ensure you don’t grip the sleeving

You can’t earth plastic, get both those earths straight into the main earthing point in that socket. You only need an additional cross bond to metal back boxes.

All metal faceplates, be it sockets or light switches will have a Earth clamp for an Earth cable, to be safe it’s best to add an extra Earth cable from this clamp to the Earth terminal holding the other earth cables....

As long earth wires are connected to the earth terminal of the new metal face plate, should be ok. Thanks
