Removing dirty water stains from.silicone render

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.40 PM

I have a long low garden wall coated with white silicone render which has been stained with dirty water running down it in one or two areas. I tried to wash it off but in the end had to paint the strip with dulux white masonry paint which I have used successfully for touch ups on it before .if I painted the whole wall with a dark colour of masonry paint to obliterate the stains and then overpainted with white masonry paint (as I want to final colour to remain white) would this work? However this time the dirt seems to be showing through leaving a black stripe down the wall and a couple of dirty patches elsewhere where I have touched it up. How can I obliterate this ? I'm worried about putting a stain blocking primer on it in case it changes the texture of the wall and makes it more noticeable. If I over paint the whole wall with a darker colour in masonry paint to obliterate the stains then over paint in white masonry paint (as I want the final colour white) would this work?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

If the areas of staining are not too great, then use Zinsser B.I.N stain block. Apply 2 coats to the stained areas and then apply 2 coats of your usual masonry paint afterwards. So long as the problem that caused the staining has been dealt with, the stains won't return. The stain block is a very thin formula and shouldn't change the wall texture to a noticeable extent. If you paint over the marks with a dark colour and then white, the marks will come back through. It could be straight away or after a short time. Water stains can only be blocked by using a stain blocker.

Pretty simple get yourself a stabilising solution from any decent shop B+Q or any other preferably Dulux stabalising solution brush it on make sure you give it a couple of coats with this give it 4to 6 hours between each coat when doing this with a brush make sure you get it on to the mortar joints this will seal the wall then give it a couple of coats with your Exterior masonry paint job done I hope this helps
