How long should I wait after getting a new roof to paint over the damp marks?
Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.40 PM
My very old roof that was letting in a lot of water has now been replaced - how long do you think I should wait before buying stain block and repainting? I've heard it can take a couple of months still for water to work through the brickwork, breezeblock, and plaster? I also have large cracks in my bedroom ceiling from water damage and I'm unsure of the best way to get rid of those without re-doing the whole ceiling?

You should wait Six months. That's the recommended time for the water to work its way through and settle, also due to Weather aswell.

As above said you wait at least six months before painting, it may feel dry to touch before then but there could still be moisture there.

I agree with the answers above about the wait period. As per the cracks what i do is i cut around into the skimming with a stanley knife making it into a upside down V shape. Slap some PVA, skim tape and then just fill it flush. It should hold just alright. Hope that was clear enough as english is not my native language
