How to clean mould & spores off rafters
Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.40 PM
Hey! I've just had my roof replaced - everything but the rafters were changed. My rafters were suffering with the old roof and although they should hopefully dry out soon with the new roof, I was wondering if and how I should clean the rafters? Could I wipe down with vinegar?

Hi claire, a couple of heaters should do the trick if you have a power outlet in your loft

Hello i wouldn't put any heaters into the loft for a couple of reasons. one this would be very dangerous as you would not be able to get an eye on them. plus you would be waisting a lot of money trying to dry the loft space. i would recommend that you let the rafters dry naturally then if you want you could use a course sand paper and rub of any white staining.
kind regards Martin

Let the rafters dry out naturally then clean down then use timber treatment you can buy in any building merchants

Hi, It may be worth checking for wet rot. The roofers should have removed and replaced/repaired any rotten timber and treated the rest. Check with them. ANd if you don't trust them, poke around and see if any of the timber comes apart when you poke it with a screwdriver. Remember it may have chemical on it so wear protection. The new roof should have ample ventilation to dry out over time. But a little heat will not hurt, provided there is no associated fire risk. Best of luck
