Floorboards Squeaking after new carpet and under layer

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.20 PM

I bought a house last year and work has been getting done with electrics and heating floorboards have been lifted and re done once it was all done everything was ok until we got new carpets put in and since that day every single room and every area of the floorboards either downstairs upstairs even the stairs itself are all squeaking!! Is this normal? Or is there something i need to do to get this issue resolved it is really annoying and embarrassing to be walking and hearing creaks in every room

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi, if its a chipboard floor, when they lifted the floor, where they cut they probably didn't put anything under the joint to support so everytime you walk on it it rubs , if it's floorboards they probably didn't put all the fixings back in, unfortunately you might have to lift the carpet to get to the floor again.

Most likely it’s the floorboards rubbing when you stand on them. The boards should have been fixed using not slip screws to avoid any movement. To fix this you will have to take the carpet back up unfortunately.

The carpet and under lay needs to be lifted in the problem areas and then I would screw down the floor every 4inches into the joists.
