Fibre Glass Roof Warranty and expectation of quality

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.20 PM

I had a fibre glass roof and balcony done. The Balcony has leaked after three months having been repaired once already and the garage also leaked due to the copings not bedding into the wall with concrete but this for the moment is resolved. The balcony leaked in several places and I have two questions. 1 The Copings do not attach to the wall fully all the way round so water can get in when it is windy. The wind can also cause movement in the copings as they are so light. Should the copings totally fix /be sealed to the wall with no gaps. 2 Should I have had a written guarantee to say how many years this product has warranty for please? 3 The leak caused water ingress and severely damaged the bedroom underneath and also some water ingress into my kitchen. To fix this the roofer has painted on some resin on top. Is this adequate or should the work have been carried out from scratch to a higher quality. 4 Should I be looking to get someone to redo this work? I am claiming from their insurance for the damage to the bedroom. Additional Information The Flashing is under the coping but in parts it is flush to the wall and sealed and in other parts it is away from the wall so there is movement when it's windy.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

The coping stoned should have been bedded on in cement or lime mortar &a flashing should have been installed under the coping stones the flashing should not be able to move with the wind , every tradesman is diffrent but generally you get a garauntee dependent on how competant the roofer is & how confident your tradesman is of his workmanship, this should have been discussed at the time of looking before starting any work and should have been included in any quote submitted again prior to starting , in short everthing should have been in writing stating exactly what was being supplied and at what cost if the work was garaunteed & for how long really without looking its not really possible to comment on the workmanship you best bet is to get an independent survey, this may cost you in the short term but will give you a better under standing of what is required long term. good luck alex

Hi the cope should be fully rebeded in cement and would not move if done so the roofer should have told you what warranty you get with the system I would thing the water is coming in at a detail not the flat area I would imagine you would need to redo the full roof if you get a good roofer to have a look w G Roofing ayr

The coping stone shud be fully bedded with no movement or gaps the minimum guarantee for a fiberglass roof shud be 15 year with two coats of liquid if you have only had one coat of liquid you will most likely have pin holes in it so will leak or the detail has not be terminated propley
