Do I need building control to brick up a small kitchen window
Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.20 PM
I have a small window in the kitchen that I want to remove and brick up ready for a new kitchen to be fitted. Would I need a building control application to undertake this work or can I just get on with it? There is another larger window in the kitchen and a door to the back garden that will remain just for further info regarding fire safety and ventilation questions that might be raised.

No building control required as your not changing building structurally. Leave lintel in or put one in using appropriate props if no lintel .

You should be fine and dandy .But I would phone building control let them know what you would like to do .You will find them pleased to help you. It’s always best to keep them informed and establish a good relationship.

No building control don’t need to be informed, make sure there’s a lintel in to carry the load above and use props if required, hope this helps 👍

You wouldn't need to inform building control by law of that sort of job... its small works. Like you say long as it passes all the necessary requirements for safety, fire etc... it will be fine. Just check for any lintel damage or tray damage to the lintels before bricking/blocking up. Then if your happy build it up.
Hope that helped. Ta ra
