can i have an open fire in the hole where my gas fire currently is?

Id like to work out all of my options on replacing my gas visage 740 FS. I cant get the parts to fix it and would like to know if I have the option of having an open fire please thanks

behinds on the hole, if its a previous chimney then you would be required to upgrade the flue liner to allow for an open fire

Yes you can provided you have a pre existing opening and your chimney is sound with no leaks . I would get a pressurised smoke test done to see if it leaks and if it does I wouldn’t recommend using it . If yiu wanted to use it then you would have have to get it lined first
