Calculations of internal area for a floor plan

I want to draw a floor plan for my apartment. But - how to calculate the total square footage? Do I have to include the width of internal walls? Or can I just measure the area and not include the width of internal walls in the total count?
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Just calculate the total of where flooring will be installed if You not doing anything on the walls just floors.
