Thistle bonding on external wall

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.19 PM

I have a solid exterior wall upstairs not ground level (double brick, no cavity) that is not flat and out of level. Wall is dry with no damp problems. I have taken the previous coat of multi finish off and the lime plaster underneath is sound in most places but loose elsewhere. Can I patch and level this wall using Thistle Bonding coat?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

I take it you mean “exterior” on an internal wall. It really depends what your end goal is, and how level your existing walls are? 1) You could use bonding to bond the problematic or uneven areas. And then finish with a multi-finish. 2) You may be able to dot-&-dab the problematic area and then finish the plaster-boards with multi-finish. 3) Or you could partition/stud the problematic area using a wall--lining system, plaster-board, and finish with a multi-finish plaster. The benefits of method 3 are. ~ Create a cavity or air-flow anyway ~ Reduce the risk of damp ~ Insulate the wall ~ Reduce sound/noise and fix acoustic problems Hope this helped!
