Can you fit uPVC doors to a wooden log cabin?
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.37 PM
We have a dunster house log cabin with 3 wooden doors and one window all fitted with double glazing. We've since realised they're not really secure and the wood keeps moving so sometimes it is hard to open/shut the doors, would we be able to fit uPVC doors and windows? If not, what other solution is there?
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi Ayshah,
I noticed a similar issue with the Dunster I built last year. In the end, the customer and I opted to change the internal-small-brass locks with more heavy-duty ones that were then secured further into the timber frame.
We also had issues with the doors sticking. They're on small screw hinges that can be tightened further into the door (you need to remove the door first) and this can help them sit better; I also need to plane them down slightly.
If Dunster built your cabin for you I would get in touch; they're very helpful. Otherwise, in response to your original question, I'm fairly certain the cabin would accommodate PVC doors; depending on the thickness of timber on your model.
Hope this helps

You can fit virtually anything to anything as long as what it is being fitted to is square and fixed solidly.
I suggest if your frames (upvc) are moving you check what they are
1 = fixed/fitted too
2= the fixings are fixed tight and long enough
3= the frames are packed out were needed.
3= the overall building is solid
