EICR unsatisfactory

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.37 PM

What happens if you have an unsatisfactory EICR report but the person completing the report does not carry out the work? Do you provide that report to a different contractor and they complete the work or do you get a new EICR done and start again? What if the new EICR comes up with different issues to the first one? Thank you.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

You just need to correct the faults on the EICR. You don't need a new one. You would need a certificate for the remedial work though to show it has been done.

The person requesting the EICR has the choice. They can either ask the same electrician who did the inspection to carry out remedial work, or ask another electrician to do it. Once completed all the paperwork should be kept together. The advantage of having the same electrician is he can re-issue an EICR with satisfactory status. A third party electrician can only issue certificates for the work he does but either way its valid. To answer the second question, if you had an EICR carried out by 100 electricians you would get 100 different EICR's I guarantee it.

Hi. you should file a complaint with the electrician registered scheme body - NICEIC, NAPIT... They can investigate how the Eicr was conducted and ask the registered person for a resolution to that complaint. They have the power to suspend their registration. You should not pay for a service if you are not happy (having solid arguments) and you can ask another electrician/company to carry out the work. Have you checked the person who done the EICR if is a competent and registered person?
