Floorboards too thin
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.37 PM
I have bought a 1960's house and doing some refurbishment works. The first floor had carpet flooring which will be replaced with laminate. Under the carpets are planks 170 wide by 15mm thick (!?) Joists are spaced at about 300-350mm. The floor is not moving or bouncing (at least not that i can tell). I will be securing the planks with bolts on the joists (currently on nails). A couple of planks have to be replaced as they are damaged (split along the length) and I expect some more to be damaged while securing them as bolts slice open the planks. Do I replace them with a similar 15mm thick piece planks, or since I have done all the hard job so far, replace the 15mm planks with 18mm sheets to be totally flat and rigid?
