Gas Works

Pilot Light Going Out A Symptom Of A Leak

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.36 PM

Hello, For a while my large gas hob seems to go out when you turn the power down. The others work better but do occasionally take a while to light. It was checked in November for safety before I moved in, but is there a chance of a more dangerous issue that pressure? I've got a C02 alarm in there with a ppm reader, but it says 0. Got another one in my bedroom which isn't picking anything up, so should I trust they are correct? My landlord sent their handyman to have a look but he didn't see an issue (it doesn't always go out). So after some peace of mind really. Cheers.

The gas valve solenoid may be failing when the ring is turned down to low setting. Or the gas injector on that ring is slightly blocked which is cutting the gas once turned down to low. In my opinion the property should have a full gas tightness test and the working pressures taken to make sure the gas pipe work is correctly sized and the gas hob stripped down cleaned and serviced.

The Solution is simple. An engineer will need to adjust the low flame regulator on the gas tap (hotplate in question) to ensure it does not go out on low flame which is Immediately Dangerous. Advise not to use that burner and call someone experienced working on cookers and hotplates. Best Wishes, Brandon, CTSGroup
