Alternatives to coving

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.58 PM

We’ve had an artex ceiling removed due to cracks and a leak in one room. The ceiling has been replastered. The coving had to be removed and now there’s a 4 inch gap between the top part of the wallpaper and the ceiling. What would be the best option to decorate this- install coving again or are there any other alternatives?

By the sounds of it you've bought the wrong size coving, so buying the rite size would rectify the problem. If the walls are painted you could apply lining paper to cover the gap the paint it. The other option would be to re decorate the area.

I guess you have a few options there. 1/ re decorate the room - strip the wallpaper and hang a new one up to the ceiling. 2/ re install coving or 3/ Fit a wallpaper border which is a bit of an old fashioned idea but could look effective if you choose the right design.

you could always use a paper boarder around the top to hide gap or you may have to repaper walls if gap needs filling

Top four inches of wall .... thats an awkward spot to cover up without it looking overly patched in. I'd redecorate room if at all possible or as others have suggested, put up a paper border, less fashionable these days but may work in your room, or re install coving. All the best, whichever option you choose.
