Penetrating Damp & Possible damp in chimney breast

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.58 PM

Hello, Thanks in advance for any assistance.... Think I might have penetrating damp on the upper area on the side wall of my house (edwardian semi). There's a small area (1m by 0.5m) of light damp patches that appears on the corresponding internal wall in the 1st floor bedroom during the winter but goes during spring/summer. Does this suggest it's not a massive problem at this stage? The small damp on the internal wall is next to a chimney breast and I got concerned there might be damp in the chimney breast. If there are no damp patches or sign of damp on the chimney breast itself...is the usually the first sign of trouble i.e. if they're none then there isn't an issue at this stage. thanks for any advice and any guidance about how I go about fixing it. The brickwork looks ok...perhaps some repointing? Dom

if repointing use N.H.L. mortar this allows your building to breathe, cement seals it trapping water ingress in the brickwork creating dampness. good luck alex
