Cutting a gas pipe that is capped off to make it flush to the floor?
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.58 PM
Hi For the gas safe engineers I have an old gas pipe running from the floor up to a wall in the middle of the kitchen, the wall has been knocked down and the question I is that are you able to cut the pipe down to the floor and Capp it off so it’s flush to the floor? It’s already capped off but sticking out from the floor.
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

If you can trace the pipe back to the meter and do some investigating you might find it has it's own feed off say the 22mm pipe that runs to your boiler.
If so that's the best place to cap it and leaves the old pipe under the floor safe and redundant.

You would need a gas engineer to trace and disconnect were the pipe branches off to the old supply. It can be done.

Tracing the pipe to the meter and cap at the meter is the best and safest option. However, if you're unable to trace the pipe then yes, you can cut at cap at floor level or below floor if feasible. However, please don't atempt to do this your self. Gas safe engineer will conduct a tightness test prior and post work to ensure no gas leaks.
