Mysterious Damp Patches on Floorboards

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.57 PM

When I first moved into this house, mysterious patches of water (like a fine mist) would appear on TOP of the lino in the kitchen. I checked the plumbing but couldn't find a leak. I ended up lifting the lino to get to the floor boards but the floorboards appeared to be bone dry however as time has gone on, weird damp spots have appeared but they look like they are coming up from *underneath* the floorboards, from the subfloor. The floor boards do not feel wet from the surface but they do feel ridiculously cold in places. We had an independent damp surveyor in last year who advised that we get new airbricks as the subfloor humidity was very high. We have done this and the kitchen feels draughty now therefore I assume the new airbricks are working, however the damp patches have not disappeared, in fact new ones appear at times and then disappear! Does anyone have any idea what is causing this? Do I need to get another surveyor or a builder out to look at the issue? The ventilation in my house is quite poor with high moisture levels through out. We also have a slug problem in the kitchen. Could there be something else causing the damp issue? It's really bothering me, at this point I just want to rip everything out!

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

To the person what said the air bricks will make it worse Nonsense air bricks will not make it worse air bricks will help I assume you've had a professional damp specialist in he's advice should be taken this is a common problem normally when the builders have have replaced floors in one room and blocked off the air vents or extensions and they blocked off the events it's even conservatories been added and blocked off the air vents if it's a timber floor you will see the nailheads going rusty this can be caused buy pool in water under floorboards in the soil this can be caused by bad drainage you should get the drains checked make sure you have not got a collapsed drain and check the ground levels have they been altered and whether or not is pushing water on this the building I hope this helps
