What kind of tradesmen do I need?

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.57 PM

I have damp around the windows in two rooms of my home. Have had a damp company out to look who advised it wasn't damp course etc. Had someone out to check windows and said there wasn't an issue. House was built circa 1880 and is sandstone. Windows replaced around 5 years ago. What type of tradesmen should I be contacting to come and have a look?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

I have had a couple of cases where the roof has been at fault and caused damp around window reveals. The roof felt over time will perish particularly close to the roofline and sag between roof joists and allow water to fall into soffits etc and on top of windows (dependant on structure of your house of coarse).

without looking its impossible to say what is happening or what is causing your issue, this type of property is built with lime mortar which allows your building to breathe sealing it with cement is the last thing you should do, if it needs repointed you should use N.H.L ITS THE WRONG TIME OF YEAR TO DO THIS , ITS MORE A SPRING SUMMER JOB. your best bet is to find some one who specilises in older propertys, there are no addatives or cement in lime nortar. good luck alex

i would check the windows are sealed onto the cills sometimes find in older houses without cavity that the water blows along window bottom on cill if ends are not sealed it blows of and into window sides ..hence the damp
