Can I replace my current thermostat cables with a plug socket
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.57 PM
Hi I’m trying to install a Nest thermostat, my old thermostat has a N (blue) and L (red) wire and also a yellow wire going into a third position. The nest requires 12v power and I wanted to see if the above wires could provide that and if not could I with the current wires replace this with a plug / usb socket? It’s all cabled in the walls so hoping I can reuse as don’t want to have to make holes and require. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

No, I wouldn’t advise it. Pretty sure that the cables there already could be adapted to suit a 12v supply. Best get an electrician in to wire it up.

Firstly no you cannot replace the stat with a socket outlet, the 3-core cable is supplied by the boiler.
Voltage present would depend on the boiler.
You need an electrician
