Why Frost stat is running the heating all night

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.57 PM

When the heating is in a timed off period through the night have noticed that the heating is still fully on and heating all the system. I have a Honeywell frost stat in series with a L641B1004 pipe stat which I presume is the cause of this problem. I have checked the stats and noticed that the pipe stat is set at 0/min deg, not 25 deg as recommended, could this be the problem or is it more likely that the stat is faulty

Hello, no, even if your pipe stat was set incorrectly, the frost stat wired in series with it would eventually reach a temperature and turn the boiler off. It's not very common to have a faulty frost stat or pipe stat so I would say that it may be a bit of a red herring thinking it's frost related. It's far more likely to be a sticking 2 port zone valve actuator, an engineer could confirm this by testing the wiring at the 'end switch' on the 's plan valves' which you are likely to have. Hope this helps.

If hot water on when heating off it could be a passing 2 or 3 port
