Plastering & Rendering

Rendering over multi finish wall

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.57 PM

I have a really bowed exterior wall that was previously skimmed with multi finish over lime plaster in my Victorian property, about 20 years ago. By most it is out of level by about an inch in middle. To level it out, can I use sand cement render with waterproofer over the existing skim finish plaster after giving it a good key down?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

You will need to strip this back, take this back to the brick, firstly render is to heavy to cover, secondary this will have salt. Issues, If then you can scratch it in sand cement and lime, and webbing the area, this mix wold be 4 sand 1 cement 1 lime, waterproof liquid mixed through the water, then a top coat using slightly weeker 5 1 1, if. Three layers needed 611

Hi,why do you want to apply heavy sand &cement over internal gypsum plaster ?. If the wall is in a sound condition you have few options,1 apply blue grit to wall as recommended on tub, then fill out with carlite bonding plaster using feather edge, then skim using multi finish.2 use drywall adhesive to dab plaster boards over entire wall, tap boards flat using straight edge, scrim joints and skim in board finish or multi.there are a few versions of blue grit and much cheaper than gyproc your choice.thanks

Seal and prepare the wall first once old plaster has been taken off then replace with sand and cement and then finish coat
