Relocate loft bathroom to stop macerator leaking toilet?
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.57 PM
(1930's typical terraced house - N17) We have an exisitng loft conversion that has a bathroom facing the front of the property, after updating the macerator we still had issues with leaks and so would like to relocate the bathroom to the rear wall so it will be directly over the 1st floor bathroom. Is this the best option or is there a better solution to avoid having a macerator toilet?

Macerators are a good option if there's no viable way to connect the WC to a main soil pipe. So to explore the options to run waste to the main soil pipe would be sensible if only to see the costs involved.

As indicated, macerators are a solution to some problems. Gravity is usually always the best option but any system could leak if not installed properly. We have fitted a lot of macerators and they need care and attention to fitting detail and if fitted in accordance with the suppliers guidelines should give a long life without issues. There are obvious do’s and don’ts for putting down them but they shouldn’t leak anymore than any other system. If they do then it could be an installation issue or a user issue.

I’d avoid these if possible there noisy, costly and not very reliable only use if completely necessary I.e basements etc where normal gravity waste system can’t be used
