No access to new drains just installed

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.39 PM

I've just have new drains installed in my back yard to replace old broken clay ones. Original drains were easily accessible via manhole and ran straight down my back yard to just outside the back of my house to main drains. The drain guy said he had to divert my drains from manhole to side of the house just a foot away from main sewer. My only issue is that there is absolutely no way to check drains incase of future problems as there is no rodding eye or inspection chamber and he has concreted over where he finished - flag got broken so am assuming this is standard? Should he have put in a rodding eye as part of the job as, when I messaged him with my query, he wants to charge me extra to come and put it in, thanks in advance, Carol

There should be a inspection chamber at every change of direction this is a building control requirement. If it’s just a straight run At the very least there should be a rodding point.

With any drain replacement its best practice to install a rodding point, In the case of a diversion if you change direction of drain run an inspection chamber would installed in my opinion

The general rule now is where there is a change of direction you put a manhole in. If it's a straight run I would of expected a prodding point at the very least.
