Chimney & Fireplace

What trades skill category does bricking up a fireplace in a chimney come under?

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.39 PM

We have a chimney with a fireplace for an open fire in our dining room which has not been used since we have lived in the property (15 years), and wish to brick up and plaster over the opening. No response on the job posted, so I am checking which category to list the job under.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

As the block work will be eventually be plastered and relatively minor in size I would opt for plasterer/ handyman. Make sure they leave a ventilation grate near the base to ensure ventilation is maintained to chimney void.

I think even handyman can do it. If i will need to do it i will just close hole with platerboard and add some vent.
