How to get a building warrant in Glasgow?
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.39 PM
We live in a tenement flat (listed building category C). We are planning on creating an en-suite by splitting our current bathroom. It involves tearing down a wall in the bathroom, putting up a new one and opening a new door, so we think we need to get a building warrant. We have looked for information in the gov.scot website, but we have not been able to find clear information to confirm whether we need the warrant and how to get it. Can anyone here give us some guidance?

Hello. It sounds like you will require a building warrant and possibly listed building consent (as it’s a C listed building). This will require a basic architectural drawing to get it through building control. If the wall being removed is solid brick, an engineer will be required to make sure it’s not supporting anything above. Hope this helps and happy to assist in my capacity as a Chartered Surveyor.
