Water tricking down between roof and guttering

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.40 PM

I have a flat roof extension. During heavy rain, water trickles down between the edge of the roof and the guttering. The guttering itself is not blocked and seems in pretty good condition; it actually takes most of the water, but the water that falls through the gap drips loudly on windowsills and it drives us mad. What would a roofer do to remedy this? In my head, there's a simple, shaped plastic 'deflector' that could be fitted over the lip of the guttering to divert the water into the guttering. Does this exist? If not, what would they do?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

John, there may be a way of installing a deflector as you say, or by adding in a strip of flashing, off the roof into the gutter. Difficult to ascertain without seeing first hand, but definitely always a solution

Like the man said without actually seeing the job it makes a solution more difficult. Having said that I would use an eaves protector and cut it down so it can slide under the felt where it turns over the edge, then the standard leaf on the tray can work as designed by directing the water into the guttering completely bridging the gap between the roof edge and where the gutter starts.

Totally agree with the other tradesmen, but it is always better to look at the problem first as there may be other underlying issues afoot but it does appear that the water needs deflect into the gutter by the eves protection system or flashing.

Perhaps remove glittering & brackets then refit further up fascia under felt edging. If the length of run isn't that long you won't need that much of a fall in guttering.

Hi, we make flashings that would go onto your roof and return in your gutter. This would cover the gap between your roof and gutter.

This could be down to 2 things firstly it could be where the down pipe is blocked causing it to run down between the wall and secondly it could be the tiles are to short that it is running behind
