Sound proofing ceiling
Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.40 PM
Hi, The tenants in the flat above mine have a young child, and the noise he makes while running, banging and dropping things is excruciating, especially since I have been working from home since last year because of the covid situation. I have tried to talk to the neighbours and their landlord, but there’s nothing they can really do. I live in a converted house and unfortunately the sound proofing is null. Thus, I am exploring the option of sound proofing the ceiling in the main 2 rooms (living/dining rooms) and would like to know what it implies in terms of: - will it be really efficient agains footsteps or child running? Will I still hear some residual noice coming from upstairs? - what kind of work does it imply? What do you need to do when the ceiling has been sound proofed? Is a simple plastering and then painting is enough or do you also need to replaster the walls? Thanks.
