Plastering & Rendering

Filling a 50mm channel in dot and dab plasterboard

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.39 PM

I need to cut a 50mm channel (along the top) into my dot and dab plasterboard walls to fix air infiltration (builders messed it up as I don't have continuous ribbon of adhesive at the top). What's the best way to fill such hole in order to create an air tight and fire proof barrier? Expanding foam? Or some sort of filler? If latter what sort of filler? The main tak is to fill the channel with a filler or foam to create a barrier so that no air gets behind the plasterboard from cavity. Just need to know what to use to create a continuous bread. Is expanding foam sufficient or should I use plasterboard adhesive and filler on top? Thank you very much for advising.

You mite find if there's something already acomadating the space or the gap in question plasterboard may be too thick aspesully with adhesive in there allso. Your best bet is to fill with board adhesive and lay some scrim over top warlst the mix is wet then use easy fil to finish smooth.
