Would an electric combi boiler, cooker and shower exceed the 100amp power usual in houses?

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 2.53 PM

I am buying a house which only has electricity. I would like to fit an electric combi boiler, a cooker and an 8.5 electric shower. I've read a lot of the advice on this site and it seems the usual supply to houses is 100amps and these appliances might need a bigger power supply to the house. If so, how expensive is it likely to be? Thank you

Really need to know the Kw rating of the electric boiler as they can be 16Kw or more. Allowing for diversity factors a 100amp supply should just about be ok, but if your planning to use all three at once then your could encounter problems. (Boiler 16Kw, Cooker 6Kw Shower 8.5Kw = 30.5Kw / 230volts = 132amps! Also this is not allowing for any load for other appliances, fridge, freezer, washing machine, lights etc. Getting a 3 phase supply installed will be several thousand pounds.

In a word, no, this is not too much power for a standard domestic property . Generally speaking, unless you are running a large number of appliances and generally consuming alot more than you generally would in a typical domestic situation then it would be necessary to get a 3 phase supply installed .
