Gas safety certificate

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.39 PM

British Gas failed my annual gas safety check on the annual gas certificate. The reason given was the absence of earth bonding for the property. I had BG servicing my boiler and doing annual gas safety checks for the past 15 years. Always passed except this year (2 days ago). I terminated my homecare contract with them after 15 years in Dec 2020. Could this has something to do with the gas safety check failure of 2 days ago? The boiler was installed by BG in Oct 2010. The property is the same property for 15 years! The boiler is the same boiler annually serviced by BG! Nothing changed for the past 15 years! Have there been new regulations in place /effective since November 2019? That was the time when my last gas certificate was issued with a "pass" Please can someone help clarify the situation/issue. Many thanks in anticipation of your assistance.

Hi, it would be classed as an advisory. We used to use the classification "not to current standards" but has since been taken out within the gas safety unsafe situations procedure.

The meter needs to be bonded within 600mm. This regulation has been around for sometime, way before 2019 so should have been picked up on your previous gas safety checks.

Boiler homecare. Equipotential protective bonding of the gas pipe is NOT achieved by fitting an earth rod. This is bad and dangerous advice. Employ an electrician that understands this very essential safety measure.

Equipotential bonding of gas is to be installed back to the M.E.T. ( main earthing terminal) NOT via an earth rod! The earth rod statement is so wrong. My advice would be get the bonding done by an electrician then everything would be in place.
